Rising star: Mohammed's ambitious goals in engineering
My name is Mohammed and I am a BEng Computer Science and Electronic Engineering student. Having studied my foundation at King's College London, I have developed myself academically and participated in opportunities that have greatly increased my passion for engineering. A few months ago I was invited to and attended the Space Entrepreneurship Program held by UKSEDS, which I am a member of, at the University of Edinburgh, which gave me an insight into the future entrepreneurial opportunities in space, for which the infrastructure is still in its early stages. I also recently volunteered at the annual Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham where I helped engage younger students in STEM. As well as this, I visited the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, once again demonstrating my development in my interest for scientific advancement.
At King's College London, I had the opportunity to serve as the secretary of the space society, where I led a visit to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.
I have also been fortunate to have received a scholarship so I could attend the London International Youth Science Forum held at Imperial College London. Now at university, I have won the IET Future Talent Award, and also won a Technetix Broadhurst Engineering Scholarship.
In terms of ideas for after university, I believe one of the paths that appeal to me is entrepreneurship, where I can harness the skills I have built in computers and engineering to innovate or invent things that improve the world. Some areas I believe will shape the world in the future are artificial intelligence, machine learning, biotechnology, space, robotics, neurotechnology and transportation. Previously, I was interested in being a doctor, but I gave up on this dream after failing to enter medical school, and have thus returned to my dream of now being an entrepreneur or politician.
